Summer Plans

My plans for this Summer are not very exciting at all. I do not plan on going on a vacation of even leaving my home state. My only plans for the Summer are to train hard and get ready for the next track season. Hopefully I will find something more exciting to do while I am home. But as of right now those are my only plans.

First Year of College

My first year of college has been a very memorable one. I met a lot of great people and even found some life friends. Earlier in the year I was really considering transferring to another college. After giving it a lot of thought, I decided to stay at Defiance because of the people here. I definitely do not think that Defiance College is worth everything I have put into it but the friendships I've made here even it out.

Alfred Hitchcock

The laws then forced the scenes where there was a kiss to be broken up into very short segments because in the 1960's kisses could not be longer than 3 seconds in length. Along with this, Hitchcock films featured certain details that would be considered inappropriate for that time period. For example, Alicia would be considered very inappropriate during that time period, girls were expected to be very refined and proper, but she was not like girls of this period. She frequently got drunk and put herself out there in many ways with men.

Throughout the whole movie T.R. Devlin, from falling in love, is trying to crack down on the Nazis hiding uranium. The feud between Nazi Germany and the United States was a very big historical event and in this movie it is portrayed very well. During World War Two the United States was always trying to bring down Nazi Germany. In Notorious the U.S. Government is after the Nazis and they use Alicia Huberman as a spy.

T.R. Devlin was just the one part of the movie while in the end him saving the girl from getting poisoned and almost killed. The movie just shows how different of a director Hitchcock was from other directors back then. Hitchcock uses historical context many times in the film one of them is the when they kiss they only do it for three seconds, another is when T.R. Devlin was saving her at the end while whispering to the butler about trying to kill her.

Alfred Hitchcock uses his camera movement and frame position repeatedly to show the major themes in Notorious, such as mistrust and betrayal. By doing this, he is relating the audience to the characters in the film. By having the kiss in the film broken up into shorter kisses may not have been Hitchcock’s idea, in the 1960’s a kiss could not last longer than three seconds.

Going Home

On Saturday May 7th I will Finally be going home for the Summer. I am very excited to be home with my family.  Not being able to see them for 8 months has not been fun. The first four months were definitely the hardest. Once I went home for winter break I was a lot better. The rest of my time here was not so bad. Living in Arizona and coming to school in Ohio has definitely been tough. But I can not wait to be home!

Songs that represent my life

Music is something that I really love. I can just put on my head phones and listen to music for hours! If I had to pick songs that represent my life, there would be a few different genres. The first song I would pick is Fly Me To The Moon by Frank Sinatra. I chose this song because I always listened to music like this when I was growing up. My mom has always been a fan of Frank Sinatra and The Rat Pack. Another song I would pick is El Rey by Vicente Fernandez. This song is one of the first mariachi songs I learned when I was younger. Mariachi music is a genre of Mexican music. Another one is Should've Been A Cowboy by Toby Keith because it was one of the first country songs I knew. Amazing by Kanye West is a good song because I use to get myself pumped up for track meets. Freaks by Timmy Trumpets is a great song that I use to get pumped up for lifting.

Outdoor All-Ohio Championships

On April 16, the Defiance College men and women's track team traveled to Ohio Wesleyan University for the All Ohio Championships.  To be able to compete at this meet, the athlete has to hit a qualifying mark or time, depending on the event. I was lucky enough to qualify for shot out and discus. In shot put I finished 12th and in discus I finished 15th. It was a very tough meet. Some of the guys I threw against will be competing at the National Championship.

TED Talk

In this TED Talk, Pamela Meyer states that lying is a cooperative act. I agree with this statement. I do believe that lying is a cooperative act. Unfortunately lying is something that everyone does at least once in their lives. But in order to lie to someone a person must make the lie believable. If it is a ridiculous lie, the person getting lied to will not believe it.

Outdoor Conference

Friday April 29 and Saturday April 30 was the 2016 HCAC outdoor track and field championships. On Friday I competed in shot put and discus. Unfortunately I did not perform as well as I should have but I was still able to score points for the team. On Saturday I competed in the hammer throw but once again I did not perform to my potential. But luckily Josh Petro placed fourth in the event and scored more points for the team.

Transition to College

Once I came to college there were a lot of things that I noticed were different from high school. Two things that were mentioned in Hjorshoj's The Transition to College Writing that I noticed right away was that high school teachers are generalists and college teachers are specialists. In high school there were many times when a class needed a substitute so administration would pull a random teacher to fill the spot. Most high school teachers are knowledgeable in many subject areas. College professors only teach in one area. The difference was that college requires new self discipline and motivation. In high school you could slack off on assignments and teachers would let you turn them in late or even give you extra credit if you weren't happy with your grade. Most college teachers will not do that. Something that Hjorshoj didn't mention is that depending on far away you are from home, you'll need to adjust to not having your family. I live in Arizona and have no family in the state of Ohio or any other nearby states. The biggest transition for me was not seeing my family for eight months out of the year.

Skills I Want To Gain

Throughout my time here at Defiance College there are many skills that I would like to gain before I leave here. One skill that I would like to have is to be able to throw the shot put and discus a lot further than when I came here. I want to have this skill because I feel like it would help me be a better coach in the future. Another skill that I would like to acquire before my time is over at Defiance is to be able to write very powerful papers. I plan on going into education and I know that I will have to do a lot writing when I become a teacher. A third skill that I would like to learn is to be a better public speaker. Being a teacher and a coach will require me to speak in front of groups of people. Although I am not scared of public, I still want to improve my public speaking skills. A forth skill I would like to gain while at Defiance is how to work better with a group of people. Most of the time I like to work alone but I know that in the next three years I will have a lot of group assignments. A fifth and final thing I would like to learn is how to improve my communication skills with people. I need to communicate well with others because my career will be helping other people and if there is some miscommunication something could go wrong.

Conference Championship

This past Saturday, February 20th, was the HCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. I competed in two different events, shot put and the weight throw.  Going into the meet I was ranked number 6 for shot put and number 15 for the weight throw. In shot put I went from number 6 and came out number 4. In the weight throw I moved up to number 11 and also set a new personal record for myself. Now the indoor season is over and outdoor season starts after spring break.

Regrets

Throughout my life so far, there hasn't been anything that I really regret except for not spending more time with my family before coming to college. As most people know, I am from Arizona. So unlike most students I can't go home on the weekends to see my family. I wasn't even able to go home for thanksgiving. During the summer I mostly spent time with friends because that is who I thought I'd miss the most, but I was wrong. If I could go back and spend more time with my mother and my daughter I definitely would. Not a day goes by that I don't miss them or think about them. Not spending a lot of time with them before I left is something that I truly regret.

2016 Pro Bowl

Today, January 31, is the 2016 NFL Pro Bowl. Every year the Pro Bowl is held in Hawaii. Up until a few years ago, it was the NFC against the AFC. But now all the players get drafted my alumni coaches Michael Irvin and Jerry Rice. The Pro Bowl consists of all the very best football players in the NFL. The way that the players get selected is by people voting for them online.

Who Is The Audience?

In the IPhone commercial, it shows many different types of people. It shows people of different backgrounds, races, and in different parts of the world. I believe that the audience is intended to be a variety of people. The Samsung commercial shows a very attractive woman using a hands free device. But there are a lot guys who think that she is waving at them. I believe that the intended audience in this commercial was adults. In the third commercial, a young boy runs away from home just to take a ride in a police car. It shows that he is comfortable in the car. The intended audience in this commercial is people that have a family with young children.

Home Opener

This past Saturday was the home opener for the men and women's track teams. It was also the first time that I would compete in the weight throw. I was in the first flight of two for the weight throw. My first throw was 12.03m and my second throw was 12.83m. Unfortunately my last throw went into the cage. My next meet is in two weeks at Ohio Northern University.

Memory

Throughout my eighteen years of life, I have had many memorable moments. But one of the most memorable moments I have had is when I had one the worst injuries that could happen to an athlete, the terrible triad to the knee. The terrible triad to the knee is when a person tears their anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), medial collateral ligament (MCL), and meniscus. This happened to me when I was 12 years old and playing football in 8th grade. It happened at our second game of the season. It was an away game against a school that was about two hours away. At this game I was starting on both sides of the ball. I was the starting fullback and starting inside linebacker. When the injury happened I was playing fullback. It was the third quarter and we were on our opponents thirty yard line. The coach had just called a play where I had to run the ball.
after the quarterback said hike I got the ball and started running with it. I had already ran about 10 yards before I finally got hit. But when I got hit, I took a hard hit to the knee. As soon as I got hit I heard a loud "pop" and I was in horrible pain. Right as I hit the ground I took off my helmet and started screaming in pain. My coaches immediately ran out to the field to see what had happened. I told my coaches that I had heard my knee pop and that I was in a lot of pain. My coach asked me if I needed to go to the hospital and I told him no so they carried me off the field and I did not return to the game. The very next day I went to the doctor and he had told me that it was just a sprain and that I would be fine in 2 weeks. So I did not do anything physical, besides walk, for 2 weeks. Once the weeks was up, I was playing basketball in my P.E. class at school. I went up for a layup and when I came back down my knee completely went out on me and I fell to the floor. A couple days later I went to see an orthopedic surgeon. He had me get an MRI and that is when he told me that I had torn my ACL, MCL, and my meniscus.

As I wake up I begin to start wondering where I am.  I start looking around and very quickly realized that I was in a jail cell. I have no recollection of where I am or why I am here. As I move around I can feel that there are some items in my pocket and I begin to pull them out. The first item I pulled out was a receipt from the restaurant an the Bellagio Hotel which reminded me that I was in Las Vegas. I then remembered that I was there for the weekend with some friends. The night before we decided to go out and have some drinks. While we were out we got into a brawl with a group of people. The cops were called and we were all arrested and that is how I ended up in jail.
